I have seen many names referring to the same basic transmission - Getrag, HM290, 5LM60, NV3500 NV stands for New Venture Gear. When I received training at the GM training center in Minneapolis in 1991 on this transmission. The training manual (which I still have) refers to it as a 5LM60 Formerly

Does anybody know what a 95 gmc tranny takes for fluid other than dealer high priced stuff. Its a 5 speed manual without the low gear. The fluid in it. I think most of the newer GM manual transmissions (`88 to current) take the Synchromesh fluid. $12.00 at the GMC dealer or $8.00 at the chevy dealer.

27 Dec 2009 My owners manual for my 1997 GMC Sierra with the NV3500 doesn't mention anything about every changing in the fluid, so I never have. Its either going to be ATF fluid or a gear wt oil. Id take out the fill plug and check to make sure. Mine was ATF. I used royal purple's syncomesh when I filled mine back
